29.03.2022.- Madrid.- La exposición "Un bosque interesante", comisariada por Mariano Navarro, establece puntos de conexión entre la dedicación profesional a la crítica de arte y el comisariado y el momento germinal en el que el futuro crítico y comisario tomó contacto con el arte contemporáneo y cobró consciencia de su importancia conceptual y de la trascendencia que las obras de los artistas que irrumpían en la escena artística madrileña suponían para la práctica del arte.
En su caso, el fenómeno se produjo al inicio de los años setenta del siglo pasado y por mediación del conocimiento primero de su obra y muy poco después con el trato personal con varios de los artistas activos en la precaria escena madrileña de aquel tiempo.
Un bosque interesante es una exposición de gabinete que en modo alguno pretende escribir lo que fue el panorama artístico español de aquella década, sino que, de modo mucho más modesto, reconoce la deuda que el comisario tiene con un grupo determinado de artistas activos en Madrid y gracias a los cuáles “descubrió” el valor del arte de su tiempo y las implicaciones que ello conllevaba en el vivir diario.
Es importante señalar que las obras expuestas –en su inmensa mayoría procedentes del fondo de los propios artistas y fielmente conservadas desde entonces– no lo son al albur de azar ninguno, sino, que por el contrario son originales o bocetos o piezas estrechamente relacionadas con aquellas, de mayor formato, que resultaron definitorias de un momento y de unos modos de hacer que transformaron en profundidad el panorama artístico madrileño y español.

The exhibition Un bosque interesante (“An Interesting Forest”), curated by Mariano Navarro, establishes points of connection between Navarro’s profession as an art critic and curator and the germinal moment in which this future critic/curator first came into contact with the world of contemporary art and became aware of two things. Firstly, the conceptual importance of contemporary art. And secondly, that the works of the artists who were bursting onto the Madrid art scene represented transcendence for the practice of art.
In Navarro’s case, the phenomenon occurred at the beginning of the 1970s, initially through seeing their work and very soon afterwards by getting to know several of the artists active on the precarious Madrid scene at the time.
Un bosque interesante is an intimate exhibition that in no way claims to describe the Spanish art scene of that decade, but rather, in a much more modest way, acknowledges the debt owed by the curator to a specific group of artists active in Madrid. Thanks to this group, Navarro "discovered" the value of the art of his time and the implications that this had for everyday life.
It is important to point out that the works on display – the vast majority of which, faithfully preserved since the 1970s, come from the artists' own collections – have not been selected at random. On the contrary, they are originals, sketches or pieces closely related to larger-format works which defined a specific moment and certain methods of creation, and which resulted in a profound transformation of the art scene in Madrid, and indeed in Spain as a whole.
